It offers a balance of power, fuel efficiency, and operator comfort, making it a reliable machine for tough job sites. Here are the main parts of the Kobelco SK260D Excavator:

1. Engine

  • Engine Type: The Kobelco SK260D is powered by a Hino J08E-WM 6-cylinder, turbocharged, water-cooled diesel engine.
  • Rated Power: Approximately 155 kW (208 hp) at 1,800 rpm.
  • Turbocharger: The engine is equipped with a turbocharger to enhance its power output and fuel efficiency, especially during high-load operations.
  • Cooling System: Features a radiator, oil cooler, and intercooler to maintain optimal engine temperatures, preventing overheating during extended operations.
  • Fuel System: Uses an advanced common rail fuel injection system for improved fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and better performance under varying loads.
  • Fuel Tank: The excavator comes with a large fuel tank to ensure long working hours without the need for frequent refueling.

2. Hydraulic System

  • Main Hydraulic Pump: The SK260D is equipped with a variable displacement piston pump capable of delivering high flow and pressure for fast, powerful operation of the boom, arm, and bucket.
  • Hydraulic Cylinders: These cylinders control the movements of the boom, arm (stick), and bucket. The hydraulic system provides powerful, precise movements to dig, lift, and handle materials efficiently.
  • Hydraulic Control Valve: Directs hydraulic fluid to the various components of the excavator, ensuring smooth operation of the machine’s functions.
  • Pilot Control System: The system provides responsive, low-effort operation for the operator, allowing fine control over the excavator’s movements.
  • Hydraulic Oil Cooler: A hydraulic oil cooler helps to prevent the hydraulic fluid from overheating, improving the longevity of the hydraulic system.
  • Boom, Arm, and Bucket Functions: The hydraulic system allows simultaneous and smooth operation of the boom, arm, and bucket for high productivity and efficiency.

3. Undercarriage

  • Track Frame: The undercarriage includes a heavy-duty track frame that provides stability and durability while ensuring smooth operation on rough terrain.
  • Tracks: The Kobelco SK260D uses steel tracks for enhanced durability and traction, particularly on uneven surfaces, mud, and rocky terrain.
  • Track Rollers: These rollers support the weight of the excavator and help distribute it evenly across the tracks, ensuring smoother operation.
  • Idlers: Positioned at the front of the tracks, idlers help to guide the tracks and maintain proper tension.
  • Sprockets: The sprockets engage with the tracks, enabling the machine to move forward or backward with high efficiency.
  • Track Shoes: The track shoes make contact with the ground and provide traction to the machine.

4. Upper Structure

  • Cab: The operator’s cab is designed for comfort, safety, and high visibility. It is equipped with ergonomic controls, climate control (air conditioning and heating), and excellent sound insulation to reduce noise and vibration.
  • Swing Bearing: The swing bearing allows the upper structure to rotate 360 degrees, enabling the boom and arm to be positioned freely and with high flexibility.
  • Counterweight: Located at the rear of the machine, the counterweight ensures the excavator remains balanced during heavy lifting and digging operations.
  • Engine Hood: The engine hood covers and protects the engine, while providing easy access for maintenance and servicing.

5. Boom, Arm (Stick), and Bucket

  • Boom: The boom is a long, robust arm that extends vertically and is designed to provide the reach needed for various digging, lifting, and material handling tasks.
  • Arm (Stick): The arm connects the boom to the bucket. It provides the excavator with additional reach and digging depth.
  • Bucket: The bucket is the main tool used for digging, lifting, and loading materials. Different bucket types (e.g., general-purpose, heavy-duty, or trenching) can be used depending on the job.
  • Quick Coupler: The quick coupler system allows for fast and easy attachment changes, enabling the operator to quickly switch between different buckets and attachments without the need for tools.

6. Attachment System

  • The Kobelco SK260D can be fitted with a variety of attachments for specialized tasks. Common attachments include:
    • Buckets (general-purpose, heavy-duty, and trenching)
    • Hydraulic Hammers
    • Grapples
    • Rippers
    • Augers
  • Quick Coupler: The quick coupler system allows operators to rapidly change between attachments, reducing downtime and improving efficiency on the job site.

7. Cooling System

  • Radiator: Cools the engine coolant, ensuring that the engine remains within an optimal operating temperature.
  • Oil Cooler: Helps to cool both the engine oil and hydraulic oil, preventing overheating and ensuring smooth and consistent performance.
  • Coolant Reservoir: Provides the engine with a steady supply of coolant for efficient temperature regulation.

8. Electrical System

  • Alternator: The alternator supplies electrical power to charge the battery and power the electrical components.
  • Battery: Stores electrical power to start the engine and operate other electrical systems.
  • Fuse Box and Wiring Harness: The wiring harness ensures that electrical power is properly distributed to various components, and the fuse box protects the system from electrical overloads.
  • Machine Monitoring System: The Kobelco SK260D is equipped with a monitoring system that provides real-time information on machine performance, such as fuel levels, engine temperature, hydraulic pressures, and maintenance alerts.

9. Transmission and Drive System

  • Hydrostatic Drive: The excavator is equipped with a hydrostatic transmission system for smooth and precise control over the machine’s speed and direction.
  • Final Drive Motors: The final drive motors provide the power to drive the tracks, enabling forward and backward movement.
  • Planetary Gear System: This system allows the excavator to operate with high torque, even when traveling at low speeds, making it suitable for heavy-duty tasks.
  • Travel Speed Control: The travel speed can be controlled by the operator to match the working conditions, offering optimal performance in various job sites.

10. Swing System

  • Swing Motor: The swing motor provides the power to rotate the upper structure, enabling the cab, boom, and arm to rotate 360 degrees.
  • Swing Reducer: This component reduces the speed of the swing motor and increases its torque, allowing for smooth, controlled rotation.
  • Swing Ring: The swing ring is the bearing that allows continuous rotation of the upper structure, ensuring stability during swinging operations.

11. Fuel System

  • Fuel Tank: The large fuel tank enables extended operating hours without the need for frequent refueling.
  • Fuel Filters: The fuel system is equipped with filters to remove contaminants before fuel reaches the engine, ensuring optimal engine performance.
  • Fuel Filler Neck: Located on the side of the machine, it is used to refuel the excavator.

12. Steering and Travel System

  • Pilot-Controlled Joystick: The joystick provides the operator with precise control over the excavator’s movements, including boom, arm, bucket, swing, and travel.
  • Hydraulic Steering: The hydraulic steering system ensures smooth, responsive, and easy maneuvering of the machine in tight spaces or uneven terrain.
  • Travel Motors: These motors are responsible for driving the tracks, allowing the machine to move forward or backward.
  • Travel Speed Control: Allows the operator to select the desired travel speed, ensuring the machine can adapt to various job site conditions.

13. Operator Comfort and Safety

  • Ergonomic Cabin: The operator’s cabin is designed for comfort and safety. It features an adjustable seat, climate control (air conditioning and heating), excellent soundproofing, and a panoramic window for superior visibility.
  • Suspension Seat: The suspension seat minimizes the impact of vibrations, providing a more comfortable working experience for the operator.
  • ROPS/FOPS: The cabin is equipped with a ROPS (Rollover Protection Structure) and FOPS (Falling Object Protection Structure) to protect the operator in case of a rollover or falling debris.
  • Wide Windows: Provides excellent visibility to the operator, improving safety and reducing blind spots.
