Used Excavator Komatsu PC360 Main Parts Pictures

The Komatsu PC360 is a heavy-duty hydraulic crawler excavator designed for high-performance operations, including construction, demolition, and large-scale digging or lifting projects. It offers excellent power, stability, and efficiency for a wide variety of heavy-duty tasks. Below are the main parts and components of the Komatsu PC360 excavator:

1. Engine

  • Engine Type: The Komatsu PC360 is powered by a Komatsu SAA6D125E-5 turbocharged, 6-cylinder, direct-injection diesel engine.
  • Rated Power: Approximately 194 kW (260 hp) at 1,900 rpm.
  • Cooling System: Includes a radiator, oil cooler, and intercooler to maintain optimal engine temperatures.
  • Fuel System: The engine uses common rail fuel injection technology, which improves fuel efficiency, reduces emissions, and delivers smoother engine performance.

2. Hydraulic System

  • The hydraulic system is one of the core components of the PC360, providing the necessary power to control the movements of the boom, arm, bucket, and swing.
  • Main Hydraulic Pump: The PC360 is equipped with a variable displacement pump that delivers high-flow hydraulic power to the various functions.
  • Hydraulic Cylinders: These control the movements of the boom, arm (stick), and bucket. They provide precise control for digging, lifting, and other operations.
  • Hydraulic Control Valve: Manages the flow of hydraulic fluid to different parts of the system, enabling smooth operation and control of the excavator's various functions.
  • Pilot Control System: The pilot control system allows for more precise and sensitive control of the excavator’s movements, reducing the operator’s effort.
  • Hydraulic Oil Cooler: Ensures that the hydraulic fluid remains at an optimal temperature to prevent overheating and ensure the longevity of the hydraulic system.

3. Undercarriage

  • Track Frame: The undercarriage provides the foundation for the excavator, offering stability and weight distribution for digging and lifting operations.
  • Tracks: The PC360 uses steel tracks to provide the durability and traction needed for operation in rough and challenging conditions. Steel tracks are ideal for heavy-duty work in soft, muddy, or rocky environments.
  • Track Rollers: These components help distribute the weight of the excavator, ensuring smooth movement and reducing friction.
  • Idlers: Located at the front of the undercarriage, idlers maintain the correct tension on the tracks and help guide the track system.
  • Sprockets: Sprockets engage with the track links to drive the machine forward and backward.
  • Track Shoes: The track shoes are individual pads that provide ground contact and traction, which contribute to the machine's overall stability during movement.

4. Upper Structure

  • Cab: The operator’s cabin is designed for comfort and safety, featuring ergonomic controls, an adjustable seat, and excellent visibility of the work area. The cab is also equipped with noise-reducing features for a more comfortable work environment.
  • Swing Bearing: The swing bearing allows the upper structure (including the cab, boom, arm, and counterweight) to rotate 360 degrees, providing flexibility for maneuvering around obstacles and performing various operations.
  • Counterweight: Located at the rear of the excavator, the counterweight ensures proper balance and stability during lifting operations, preventing tipping.
  • Engine Hood: Protects the engine and the cooling system from dirt, debris, and other environmental factors while allowing easy access for maintenance and inspection.

5. Boom, Arm (Stick), and Bucket

  • Boom: The boom is the long arm that provides vertical reach for the excavator, enabling it to dig at great depths or lift materials to high areas.
  • Arm (Stick): The arm or stick is the component that connects the boom to the bucket. It extends the machine’s reach and enables digging and material handling at varying depths.
  • Bucket: The bucket is the primary attachment for digging and material handling. It can be replaced with other attachments, such as a grappling bucket, hydraulic hammer, or auger, depending on the task.
  • Quick Coupler: The quick coupler system allows the operator to rapidly change attachments, increasing efficiency and versatility on the job site.

6. Attachment System

  • The Komatsu PC360 is compatible with a wide range of attachments that can be quickly swapped for different tasks. Common attachments include:
    • Buckets (general-purpose, heavy-duty, narrow, or trenching)
    • Hydraulic Hammers
    • Grapples
    • Augers
    • Rippers
  • The quick coupler system makes attachment changes easy, reducing downtime and improving productivity.

7. Cooling System

  • Radiator: The radiator keeps the engine coolant at a proper operating temperature to avoid engine overheating.
  • Oil Cooler: The oil cooler regulates the temperature of the hydraulic oil to ensure smooth operation and prevent overheating of the hydraulic system.
  • Coolant Reservoir: The coolant reservoir stores coolant for the engine’s cooling system, maintaining the engine’s temperature under various working conditions.

8. Electrical System

  • Alternator: The alternator generates electrical power to charge the battery and provide power to the excavator’s electrical components.
  • Battery: The battery stores electrical power to start the engine and operate the machine’s electrical systems.
  • Fuse Box and Wiring Harness: Distribute electrical power to various parts of the machine and provide a centralized point for troubleshooting electrical issues.
  • Machine Monitoring System: The electrical system includes an onboard display that monitors the machine’s performance, including engine health, hydraulic pressure, fuel consumption, and maintenance needs.

9. Transmission and Drive System

  • Hydrostatic Drive: The PC360 uses a hydrostatic drive system, which allows for smooth control of travel speed and direction. The hydrostatic drive improves the machine’s fuel efficiency and response times.
  • Final Drive Motors: These motors provide the necessary power to move the tracks, allowing the machine to travel forward or backward.
  • Planetary Gear System: This system reduces the speed of the drive motors while increasing torque, allowing the machine to move more efficiently in rough terrain or when handling heavy loads.
  • Travel Speed Control: The system allows the operator to adjust the speed of the excavator, enabling fine-tuned movement in tight or congested spaces.

10. Swing System

  • Swing Motor: The swing motor powers the rotation of the upper structure, allowing the operator to rotate the cab, boom, and arm in a 360-degree arc.
  • Swing Reducer: The swing reducer slows down the rotation of the swing motor and increases its torque, allowing for smooth and controlled swings.
  • Swing Ring: A bearing that enables continuous rotation of the upper structure, providing full 360-degree movement for the boom and arm.
