Used Excavator Komatsu PC55MR Main Parts Pictures

The Komatsu PC55MR is a mini hydraulic excavator that combines the benefits of a compact size with powerful performance. This machine is ideal for a wide range of tasks, including urban construction, landscaping, utility work, and demolition in confined spaces. Below are the main parts and components of the Komatsu PC55MR excavator:

1. Engine

  • Engine Type: The Komatsu PC55MR is powered by a Komatsu 4D88E-6 turbocharged, 4-cylinder, direct injection diesel engine.
  • Rated Power: Approximately 40.5 kW (54.3 hp) at 2,200 rpm.
  • Cooling System: The engine includes a radiator, oil cooler, and intercooler to maintain optimal operating temperatures, ensuring efficient engine performance and durability.
  • Fuel System: Uses a common rail fuel injection system that optimizes fuel efficiency and reduces emissions.

2. Hydraulic System

  • The hydraulic system is central to the excavator’s performance, powering all movements such as boom, arm, bucket, and swing.
  • Main Hydraulic Pump: A variable displacement pump that delivers the necessary hydraulic power to perform digging, lifting, and swinging.
  • Hydraulic Cylinders: These cylinders are responsible for the movement of the boom, arm (stick), and bucket, enabling precise and powerful digging and lifting.
  • Pilot Operated Hydraulic System: Provides easier control of the excavator’s movements with less effort from the operator.
  • Hydraulic Control Valve: Distributes hydraulic fluid to the cylinders and other attachments, allowing smooth and efficient operation.

3. Undercarriage

  • Track Frame: The undercarriage is built for strength and stability, supporting the weight of the machine and providing mobility.
  • Tracks: Rubber tracks are used to provide lower ground pressure, reducing surface damage while ensuring excellent traction on soft or uneven terrain.
  • Track Rollers: These support the tracks and reduce friction, ensuring smooth movement.
  • Idlers: Located at the front of the undercarriage, idlers guide the track system and help with the tensioning of the tracks.
  • Sprockets: These are the gears that engage with the track to propel the excavator forward and backward.
  • Track Shoes: The individual track pads that provide ground contact for movement.

4. Upper Structure

  • Cab: The operator’s compartment is designed for comfort and ease of use. It includes ergonomic controls, a climate control system, and excellent visibility to ensure operator safety and comfort.
  • Swing Bearing: This allows the upper structure, including the cab, boom, and arm, to rotate 360 degrees.
  • Counterweight: A large weight located at the rear of the excavator to balance the machine and prevent tipping during lifting or digging tasks.
  • Engine Hood: The protective cover that provides access to the engine, radiator, and other key components for maintenance.

5. Boom, Arm (Stick), and Bucket

  • Boom: The large, vertical arm of the excavator that provides reach and height for digging and lifting.
  • Arm (Stick): The extendable arm that connects to the boom and allows the bucket to reach further forward and downward.
  • Bucket: The primary attachment for digging and material handling. It can be replaced with various attachments like hydraulic hammers or grapples, depending on the job.
  • Quick Coupler: Allows for rapid attachment and detachment of the bucket or other tools, improving versatility on the job site.

6. Attachment System

  • The Komatsu PC55MR can use a variety of attachments, including:
    • Buckets (standard, narrow, digging, and trenching)
    • Hydraulic Hammers
    • Grapples
    • Augers
    • Rippers
  • The machine is compatible with hydraulic quick couplers, allowing quick and easy attachment changes between different implements.

7. Cooling System

  • The cooling system includes:
    • Radiator: Helps to keep the engine temperature within the ideal range.
    • Oil Cooler: Ensures that the hydraulic oil maintains optimal temperature during operation.
    • Coolant Reservoir: Stores coolant fluid to prevent the engine from overheating and maintain system performance.

8. Electrical System

  • Alternator: Charges the battery and provides electrical power to the system.
  • Battery: Powers the electrical components of the machine and starts the engine.
  • Wiring Harness and Fuse Box: Distributes electrical power to various components like lights, sensors, and display panels.
  • Electrical Monitoring: The PC55MR may include an electrical monitoring system to alert the operator to any faults or maintenance needs.

9. Transmission and Drive System

  • Hydrostatic Drive System: This provides smooth and efficient movement, using hydraulic motors to drive the tracks.
  • Final Drive Motors: These motors transmit hydraulic power to the tracks, enabling the excavator to move.
  • Planetary Gear System: Reduces the speed of the drive motor and increases torque, allowing the machine to travel smoothly over different terrain.

10. Swing System

  • Swing Motor: This motor powers the rotation of the upper structure, allowing the cab, boom, and arm to turn 360 degrees.
  • Swing Reducer: Reduces the speed from the swing motor and increases torque, ensuring smooth rotation.
  • Swing Ring: A bearing that allows the upper structure to rotate around the base.

11. Fuel System

  • Fuel Tank: Holds the diesel fuel required to power the engine.
  • Fuel Filters: Remove impurities from the fuel before it enters the engine, ensuring long engine life.
  • Fuel Filler Neck: Located at the rear of the machine, this is where fuel is added to the tank.

12. Steering and Travel System

  • Pilot-Controlled Joystick: The joystick is used to control the machine’s movements, including boom, arm, bucket, and swing as well as the travel direction.
  • Hydraulic Steering: The hydraulic system controls the movement of the tracks for precise and easy steering.
  • Travel Speed Control: Allows the operator to adjust the speed of movement, depending on the task and terrain.

13. Operator Comfort and Safety

  • Ergonomic Operator Cabin: The cab features adjustable seating, clear controls, and excellent visibility for safety and comfort.
  • Suspension Seat: Helps to absorb shocks and vibrations during operation, reducing operator fatigue.
  • Climate Control: Heating and air conditioning systems ensure a comfortable working environment.
  • ROPS (Rollover Protection Structure) and FOPS (Falling Object Protection Structure): These safety features protect the operator in case of machine overturn or falling debris.
  • Visibility: The cab design allows the operator to have an unobstructed view of the work area, enhancing safety and productivity.
