Used Excavator Komatsu PC70 Main Parts Pictures

The Komatsu PC70 is a small to medium-sized hydraulic excavator, known for its versatility and ability to work in tight spaces. It is used primarily in construction, urban development, landscaping, and material handling. Below is a detailed breakdown of the main parts of the Komatsu PC70:

1. Engine

  • Type: Diesel engine (typically Komatsu S4D95 or similar).
  • Power Output: Approximately 70–75 horsepower.
  • Function: Provides power to the hydraulic system and travel motors.
  • Cooling System: Includes a radiator, fan, and coolant system to prevent engine overheating.
  • Fuel System: Includes the fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel filter, and fuel lines that ensure clean fuel delivery to the engine.
  • Air Filter: Prevents dust and other contaminants from entering the engine.
  • Exhaust System: Includes an exhaust manifold, muffler, and optional aftertreatment system (like a Diesel Particulate Filter, DPF, or Selective Catalytic Reduction, SCR).

2. Hydraulic System

  • Main Hydraulic Pump: Powers the boom, arm (stick), bucket, and other hydraulic attachments.
  • Hydraulic Cylinders: Control the movement of the boom, arm, and bucket. Typically, there are three cylinders: for boom lifting, arm (stick) extension, and bucket operation.
  • Hydraulic Reservoir: Stores hydraulic fluid and ensures a constant supply to the hydraulic system.
  • Control Valves: Direct the hydraulic fluid to the appropriate components to carry out movements (digging, lifting, etc.).
  • Hydraulic Hoses and Pipes: Carry pressurized hydraulic fluid throughout the system to the cylinders and valves.
  • Auxiliary Hydraulic Lines (Optional): For powering additional attachments, such as breakers, hammers, or augers.

3. Undercarriage

  • Tracks: The Komatsu PC70 uses rubber or steel tracks, which provide better stability and mobility on rough or uneven terrain.
  • Track Rollers: Support the tracks, allowing them to rotate smoothly over the ground.
  • Idlers: Positioned at the front of the track frame, the idlers help guide the tracks and maintain proper tension.
  • Track Tensioner: Allows for adjustment of the track tension to ensure smooth movement and to reduce wear.
  • Final Drive: Transmits power from the engine to the tracks, allowing the machine to move forward or backward.

4. Boom and Arm (Stick)

  • Boom: A long arm that extends vertically and horizontally to lift, move, and position materials. It provides the reach necessary for digging or lifting at a distance.
  • Arm (Stick): The extendable part of the boom, which provides further reach and depth when digging or excavating.
  • Pins and Bushings: Connect the boom, arm, and bucket. These allow for smooth articulation during operation.
  • Boom and Arm Hydraulic Cylinders: Control the lifting and extension of the boom and arm, enabling the operator to reach and manipulate materials at various angles and depths.

5. Bucket

  • Bucket Types: The PC70 can be fitted with different types of buckets, such as general-purpose, heavy-duty, or rock buckets, depending on the application.
  • Bucket Teeth: Replaceable teeth that provide better penetration into the material, aiding in digging.
  • Quick Coupler (Optional): Allows the operator to easily change the bucket or other attachments, such as breakers or grabs.
  • Bucket Pin: Secures the bucket to the arm or stick, and allows for smooth operation.

6. Operator’s Cabin

  • Seat: The seat is ergonomically designed for comfort during long hours of operation. It can be adjusted to fit the operator’s needs and preferences.
  • Control Console: Contains the joystick and lever controls for operating the boom, arm, bucket, and auxiliary hydraulics.
  • Instrument Panel: Displays critical information such as engine speed, hydraulic pressure, fuel levels, and any system alerts.
  • Visibility: The cabin is designed for excellent visibility in all directions, particularly the area around the digging and lifting operations.
  • Climate Control: Air conditioning and heating options (in some models) to keep the operator comfortable in varying weather conditions.
  • ROPS/FOPS (Rollover/Falling Object Protective Structure): Provides safety for the operator in the event of a rollover or falling debris.

7. Swing System

  • Swing Motor: Powers the rotation of the upper structure (cab, boom, and arm) to allow the excavator to rotate 360 degrees.
  • Swing Gearbox: Transfers the rotation force from the swing motor to the upper structure.
  • Swing Ring: A large bearing that enables smooth rotation of the upper structure.
  • Swing Lock: Holds the upper structure stationary when not in use to prevent unintended rotation.

8. Electrical System

  • Battery: Powers the electrical systems, such as the ignition, lights, and instrumentation.
  • Alternator: Charges the battery during operation and powers electrical components.
  • Wiring Harness: Connects electrical components and allows for communication between sensors, controllers, and actuators.
  • Lighting System: Includes work lights, headlights, tail lights, and turn signals to ensure safe operation in low-light conditions.

9. Fuel System

  • Fuel Tank: Stores diesel fuel for the engine.
  • Fuel Filters: Clean the fuel before it reaches the engine to prevent clogging and damage.
  • Fuel Lines: Deliver fuel from the tank to the engine.

10. Travel System

  • Travel Motors: Drive the travel motors to propel the excavator on its tracks.
  • Final Drives: Transmit power from the travel motor to the tracks, enabling the excavator to move forward or backward.
  • Brakes: The PC70 features multi-disc brakes for smooth and controlled stopping. It includes both service brakes for operation and parking brakes to hold the machine stationary.
  • Track Frames: Support the tracks, providing the excavator with its stability and load-bearing capacity.

11. Cooling System

  • Radiator: Cools the engine and hydraulic oil to prevent overheating.
  • Oil Cooler: Specifically cools the hydraulic oil used in the system, maintaining its ideal temperature.
  • Coolant Fan: Moves air through the radiator and oil coolers to maintain optimal operating temperatures.

12. Exhaust System

  • Exhaust Pipe: Directs exhaust gases away from the engine.
  • Muffler: Reduces the noise generated by the engine’s exhaust.
  • Aftertreatment System (Optional): Some models may include a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) or Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) to meet emissions standards.

13. Brake System

  • Service Brakes: Multi-disc brakes used to stop the excavator during regular operation.
  • Parking Brake: Holds the machine stationary when parked.

14. Safety Features

  • Emergency Stop Button: Allows the operator to quickly stop the machine in case of an emergency.
  • Backup Alarm: Sounds when the excavator is reversing, alerting surrounding personnel.
  • Seatbelt: Ensures the operator is securely fastened during operation.
  • Overhead Guard (ROPS/FOPS): Protects the operator from falling objects or in case of a rollover.
  • Swing Lock: Prevents unintended swinging of the upper structure when stationary.
